Brief Q&A

Will my queries or reports break when we upgrade?

  • If you are accessing your TylerERP related reports on the Deschutes County Reporting Services page your reports will be repointed and should work as they always have. If they do not, please contact Help.Munis@deschutes.org right away.
  • If you have custom made Excel or PowerBI documents that are pulling data from Tylerapp\tylerci you will get an error message the first time you open and will need to re-point your workbooks/reports to the new server. This is a simple change to make, the steps are below
  • From here forward, when you're making new reports or queries use the new server name

Old Server Name: tylerapp\tylerci

New Server Name: erp-app\tylerci

  • Do I need to re-point things that are using the Analysis services Cubes on SQLWH2\FinanceSSAS?
    • No, that is a different server. Those cubes were custom made years ago (they are not TylerERP's cubes). We are not changing that name and you do not need to take any action to keep them working.
    • However, TylerERP has it's own cubes that can be accessed through the "Analysis Services" menu in Excel using the new server: erp-app\tylerci. Ultimately we'd like to get away from using the SQLWH2 cubes so as you make new reports using cube data, please make every effort to base your reports on the ERP-APP\tylerci cubes. Thanks.

Changing Data Sources in Power Query

Issue: You try to "Refresh" your data in an Excel spreadsheet and you get an error like this:

Solution: It's likely your report is pointing to the old server instead of the new. This can be fixed by simply re-pointing to the new server.

1. Open your Power Query editor

a. Click on Data source settings

b. Click on Change Source

2. Change the server name to the new server: erp-app\tylerci. You could also use this method to change to muntrain or muntest if you wanted.

3. Double check to make sure it worked by going to the Advanced Editor on one of your queries.

You'll see the Source = Sql.Database is now pointing to the new server name and that will be true of all your queries in this workbook.

Changing Data Sources in PowerBI

1. Click on the File menu

2. Click on Options and Settings

3. Click on Data Source Settings

4. Here is where you'll see what server your report is connected to. In this case it's tylerapp\tylerci and needs to be changed to erp-app\tylerci

5. Click on Change Source

6. Change the server entry to erp-app\tylerci and click OK
